OPENLANE UK merges into OPENLANE Europe from 16th January 2023

Information for Buyers

Exciting things are happening at OPENLANE. Our UK auction platform OPENLANE UPSTREAM integrates with openlane.euthe online auction website for the car trade in Europe. That means our range of cars in auction will only be visible on openlane.eu from 16th January 2023.

As well as OPENLANE UPSTREAM, we are also consolidating our German platform OPENLANE GWListe into one European platform.


Why are we making this change?

In short, to make your life easier, whether you’re buying or selling. Our integrated European platform openlane.eu will provide an easy, fast and hassle-free experience for both buyers and sellers who will gain access to proven technology and applications already largely enjoyed by OPENLANE Europe customers.


What are the 4 main advantages you have as a buyer?

1. Access to a great variety of Fleet & Part-Exchange vehicles; After you login, stock is automatically filtered to show UK vehicles. Tailored vehicle recommendations make finding the vehicles you need quicker and easier than ever.

2. Improved vehicle descriptions; With quality inspections and condition reports, including a mechanical indicator, NAMA grading and damage images, getting a clear picture of the vehicle’s condition is easier than ever, so you can buy online with confidence.

3. OPENLANE is ‘always on’; Opportunities to bid, negotiate and buy are available 24/7 from any device via our mobile-friendly website.

4. Personalised user account; Monitor and manage all your bids and purchases quickly and easily from a central dashboard in the ‘My account’ portal.


What do you need to know if you’re buying?

• Your username and password to access openlane.eu are unchanged. Your username is the email address you used to register with OPENLANE UPSTREAM.

• If you cannot remember your password, simply reset it when you go to log in to openlane.eu.

• As we are now operating from one central European platform, some of our transactional emails will come from a European email address – [email protected]. Co.uk email addresses remain operational though. Please make sure to whitelist these email addresses.

• Once you have logged in, our European openlane.eu platform will automatically filter to show all UK sales. We run two types of auction – Dynamic Auctions (bid auctions) and Buy Now Auctions. In a Buy Now auction, you can immediately reserve a car by bidding the Buy Now price.

• Find the vehicle you are looking for quickly and easily. Use quick search from the home page, or advanced search which makes extended filter criteria available. Or alternatively, filter by auction time and seller from the Auction page. You can ask the system to notify you whenever vehicles matching your saved searches appear on the website.

• The bid agent (previously known as proxy bid) makes bidding in our auctions easier by saving you time. The bid agent automatically places bids if you are overbid until it reaches a maximum amount set by you. It’s ideal if you’re not present on our website, but don’t want to miss out on winning an auction.

• The current CAP value of every vehicle can be found at the bottom right of the car details page, to help you make smarter bidding decisions.

• You can manage your bids, and keep track of purchases from within ‘My account’.

• When an auction ends and the vehicle reserve is not met, if you are the highest bidder you are able to negotiate directly with the seller by heading over to “My Bids” within ‘My account’. Here you can accept, reject or counter-offer the seller’s offer.

• Once you win a vehicle, you must confirm your purchase from within ‘My account’ within 24 hours. Our new improved check out process allows you to tell us if you want to self-collect or for us to arrange delivery, and let us know if you want to use NextGear funding for your purchase.

• We’ll send you email notifications from [email protected] to keep you up to speed on the auction activity. You can control your notification preferences from within ‘My account’. Make sure to whitelist this email address.


What does it cost?

Our pricing remains the same. We don’t charge any joining fees or subscriptions and UK customers conduct business in pounds.
